Laila Day

Good Friday, April 6
I talked to Andra, my cousin who once lived in Malang for school, for almost 3 hours in the morning. I consulted him IT stuffs but we ended up talking about life and relationships. It was hilarious always. I like that we have same view about F / M issues although he is male. He thinks using both sides’ consideration. Today we talked about not to buang-buang waktu (waste time) in relationship; or discard bad relationship and start new quickly. It’s hard to discuss with person who doesn’t believe in good relationship :-)
Laila only contacted me two days before she left Midrand, South Africa, for a week Easter holiday with her Mom in Jakarta. It’s nice that everyone in ‘our group’ (was 9 singles of over 40) was in town yesterday. We’ve been good girlfriends since long and it’s Laila who ‘ties’ the string. There are friends from childhood, university, work, and social. I think it’s the “being single” that makes us have lots in common.
Laila got married almost two years ago and yesterday, Ita, announced that she’s going to get married next month with a man she met just three months. What a discussion to start our get-together day! One agreed to just bungee jump, some suggested her to live together first, and the rests were simply not sure. We discussed more after she left :-)
We spent 12 hours at Laila Mom’s house, 8 of us plus Ibu. It’s like chicken farm – everyone talked at the same time. We had our favorite Iranian lunch Ibu prepared. She is from Iran and well known for her Iranian cooking. We were in turn sharing life updates. Leila with her baby updates, how she is still trying to conceive; Hess starts a new job next Monday after four months off work; Lisa is in her final stage of post-graduate study (lawyer); Amal moves to Denpasar next week; Ida is ever busy with work and has decided to move on with life leaving her boyfriend (that we laughed a lot because it’s been 5 years on-off); Mariza and me decided to have standard update or.. nothing new!
It’s funny that we only got together when Laila is around. The last time we met was before Laila’s wedding one and a half years ago. We didn’t meet each other after that occasion because everyone often goes out of town. Laila was lucky to be able to meet us all yesterday, except one who is still out of country.
As I predicted, we stayed for dinner too ha ha.. We were more than happy to have leftovers instead of ordering noodle from outside. We constantly talked about many many things. Ibu shared a lot of her experiences with taxi drivers / in public transportation. She decided to not have a car and driver because she spends more of her time abroad visiting kids and grand-kids in New York and South Africa, plus pulang kampung to Iran.
We surely had a good 12-hour together. We exchanged information on beauty, health, art, kebaya tailor, and how to date a man after 40. Dating with open eyes.
